A knock on your door accompanied by two rings of the doorbell at 4 o'clock in the morning is never a good thing. Just so you know. Unless of course you have a friend who is due any minute and you are watching the kids when they head to the hospital. But I don't have said friend right now and FYI call first and I'll have pants on.
Anyway back to the very urgent knocking/ringing this morning. Darren and I hopped out of bed, scrabbled to get presentable and find glasses to be able to see and he opened the door to a police officer standing on our doorstep. Apparently last night in our neighborhood some cars were broken into and one of ours was in the driveway with the doors open and the dome light on. It seems as though they wasted their time with ours because nothing was taken as nothing was in there. Even all of the paperwork was left in the glove compartment. Whew! Dodged that bullet.
Then this morning I got to thinking about the garage door opener and wondered if they took it hoping to come back later. A quick call to Darren and a quick run out to the parking lot at work confirmed that it was in the car. I checked out the garage and everything is still there and just as messy as it was before bed last night. Darn, if they had taken a few items it would have saved me some of the time it will take to clean the garage this weekend.
And while I'm not an alarmist - I make it a policy to never worry out loud - here's a little reminder to lock your car doors and take your valuables inside. I'll never get both cars in the garage - nope not going to happen in my teeny tiny Gilbert, AZ garage. It was most likely a few kids looking for cash. Sadly I don't have much of that laying around. :p

Wow...you are lucky! We weren't but I was the idiot that left my purse in the car. They did take a bunch of other things like radio, handheld solitare game (huh?), some candy and SCRIPTURES!! Yep! they took Mitch's scriptures. I can only hope that they felt really guilty when opened those or they are now converted and teaching the youth in their wards the downfalls of thievery.
I have a friend that I KNOW would say, "That's blessings from paying tithing!" Whenever things like this happen, I hear her voice in my head, repeating that phrase. :)
I'm so glad that you weren't victimized. The last time I had an urgent knock in the middle of the night, it was my neighbor who had been stabbed in the throat and chest by her adult daughter. I called 911 despite her begging me not to. What was I supposed to do, let her die in my living room?!
Glad you were safe and everything still in tact. I don't go to the door at that hour I make my husband. I hate those heart thumping scares.
You are lucky! Okay, blessed. Not only didn't they steal anything in your car, but they didn't STEAL YOUR CAR. Still, though, it's weird feeling to know that someone messed with your stuff.
Yeah for you guys that nothng was in there, and so sad for Pam. I thought we had a safe neighborhood. I don't like hearing stories like that. But I am glad it all turned out ok.
Cops on the doorstep at 4 in the morning? No thank you. I probably wouldn't even answer the door b/c I wouldn't want to hear whatever it is they had to say. I bet you guys looked cool in your glasses at 4 a.m., though. :)
Going to go double check my locks now.
Oh Heidi, he's going to Mesa Spanish speaking.
Scary Heidi! And Pam too! Was your garage open? I know, I always make sure the door leading into the house from the garage is locked every night. I'm glad you are all okay, seriously. I just read Trish's comment, now I'm really scared. The last time something freaky happened outside our house Trent slept right through it and I had to call 911. I'm definately the worrier of the family.
Where you at, girl? I miss the Heidi chronicles.
